Bloomfield Youth Guidance

Bloomfield Youth Guidance was formed in 1967 to help strengthen youth and families and prevent delinquency and neglect through community involvement.

Like its Youth Assistance counterparts throughout Oakland County, local volunteers develop and provide prevention-based programs and professional staff offer counseling services that promote positive growth experiences and enhance home and community relationships.

BYG is sponsored by the Bloomfield Hills School District, Bloomfield Township, and the Oakland County Circuit Court-Family Division with funding supplied through the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.

BYG is served by a caseworker, provided by the Oakland County Circuit Court-Family Division. Professional, family-centered counseling and referral services are offered to Bloomfield Hills School District students and their families. Counseling/casework services are confidential, and are initiated by referrals from schools, police, court officials, as well as parents with concerns about their child.  There is a $25.00 processing fee for this service

Each year, Bloomfield Youth Guidance honors students from our community who have proven to be outstanding citizens. We do this because we believe that positive behaviors are often overlooked. These young people serve as role models for their peers; they reassure the community that the future is in good hands.

A candidate may be nominated for an award under any of the following five categories: performance of an act of heroism; providing exceptional service to an individual; achievement by an individual based upon overcoming a personal challenge and setting an example in assisting others; initiation of a new program or project to help others.

The winners are honored at our annual Outstanding Youth Citizen Awards Dinner in the spring.

Bloomfield Youth Guidance provides need-based scholarships to assist families with the cost of an enrichment experience, such as camp, or an appropriate skill building activity. BYG offers a limited number of scholarships to students residing within the Bloomfield Hills School District.

We welcome contributions to the enrichment fund from individuals or groups.
